Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Does Not Work

Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Does Not Work

1. You must replace your USB Hub!
  • The number one cause of this issue is the media hub. The original media hub will give you Android Auto with the new system installed but the Apple CarPlay will not work.
  • You should have received a new media hub with your kit to replace the old one if needed. The new media hub has the chip necessary to enable the Apple CarPlay. *Some 2018 vehicles do not need a replacement.
  • If you go to a verified installer to perform the installation please make sure that they've replaced the media hub.
2. Enable Apple CarPlay / Android Auto on your phone.
  • Make sure that your phone is enabled. On your phone go to Settings > General > CarPlay.
  • Make sure that you have the Android Auto application installed on your phone.
3. Enable "Smartphone Device Mirroring" on your radio.
  • Each radio is different however, your vehicle may require you to enable "Smartphone Device Mirroring".
  • To enable the option on your radio please perform the steps in one or two ways:
                        a) Select the Phone icon > Pairing> Smartphone Projection Manager> Smartphone Device Mirroring
                        b) Select Apps Icon > Projection Manager> Smartphone Device Mirroring
4. Original USB Plug / Different Devices
  • Make sure that you are using the original USB cable that came with your phone when connecting to Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. If you do not have the original cord and if you are using an aftermarket you will need to try another cord. Some aftermarket cables are not compatible with the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto features.
  • Try another phone. Confirm that Apple CarPlay / Android Auto is working by using another phone.
5. Power / Connection
  • Make sure that when you plug up your phone you are getting power. If your phone is charging then that mean you have power.
  • If it is not getting power then you have to recheck your installation. Please make sure that there is no pinched wires, loose connection or damage pins in the media hub or plugs.
6. Bluetooth Connection
  1. Make sure your device is connected via Bluetooth as well as by USB cable.
7. Unpair and Delete
  1. Delete all history of vehicles paired with your phone and from the radio (if possible).
8.  Reinstalling Unit
  • If you are still not getting Apple CarPlay / Android Auto then try disconnecting the upgraded system and reconnecting everything. Disconnect the cables behind the unit, wait about 10 seconds then reconnect the cables to the unit. Once completed start the vehicle and try again.
9. Can-BUS Reset
  • A Can-BUS reset is a procedure used to ensure that the entire new upgrade is properly synced with the vehicle. Because it is not the original system the vehicle is still try to recognize changes and as a result you may see glitches in the beginning.
-Take the positive and negative cables off your battery
-Tap them together and hold for 3 seconds
-(if you have a diesel, disconnect both batteries, then do one battery at a time then go to next step)
-Reconnect the cables to the battery.
-Let the vehicle sleep for 10-15 minutes
-Restart the vehicle with the engine running.
                  -Test the unit

13. "Connect Supported Device"
  1. Go to the settings on the home screen on your navigation unit.

You should see "Android Auto Settings" and "Apple Carplay Settings".
