"Service Rearview camera" error after installing GM back up camera

Once confirming you're pre-wired in a 15 model vehicle or installing the camera in a 16 year vehicle or newer, you'll typically want to install the camera wiring into the dummy plug. However, those who have a locking tailgate handle be sure to swap the locking mechanism from the original handle to the replacement. In this case, when unplugging the original handle wiring you will plug your replacement wiring into the same location. See below.
