How to verify pre-wiring at the tailgate on a Chevy/GM

Please use the below pictures, and video to help verify you are pre-wired. You will need to CUT THE COVERING around the plug back far enough to not only see the blue/white, and yellow/grey wires that we are looking for, but as you can see in the below pictures these wires should be tied together further back. Seeing both these wires going to the correct spots as well as them being actually joined together further down the loom will let you know that your vehicle is in fact pre-wired for a back up camera.

However, there is a 50% chance that if the vehicle is a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado or 2014 GMC Sierra that the vehicle is FALSELY Pre-wired at the tailgate. There is no way to verify through the VIN if the vehicle is FALSELY pre-wired. Somewhere along the body harness, the camera signal and return wires are grounded. There are only two ways to verify if the vehicle is falsely pre-wired, by checking continuity for the camera input at the radio and tailgate camera, or you have everything installed and you get a black screen saying "Service Rear Vision System".

There is also a 25% chance that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra that the vehicle is FALSELY Pre-wired at the tailgate.

If this is the case, the camera kit will need to be exchanged for the NON-Prewired Camera kit, and the camera loom will need to be run from the tailgate to the cabin of the truck to the radio unit.
